Phase One Pleased with Suzuka 8 Hour Qualifying
Cudlin, Smart and Penzkofer Set for Tomorrow’s Race
Yamaha Phase One Endurance have qualified in 27th place overall for the Suzuka 8 Hour round of the Endurance FIM World Championship.
Their time of 2:13.587 was set by Damian Cudlin and positions them as the fourth quickest permanent team, about half a second behind rivals Yamaha Austria and Kawasaki Bolliger, and almost two seconds clear of Yamaha Maco Moto and Folch Yamaha. Provisional pole position has gone to the FCC TSR Honda of Shinichi Ito.
Phase One team manager Russell Benney: “I’m extremely pleased with Damian’s performance in qualifying, and with the bike set up, which has gone very well. We’ve got the bike set stiffer than we’ve had it before but we’ve done our fastest ever time round here on a Yamaha.
“My only concerns are the spread of speeds across our three riders, and that we haven’t found the ideal tyre choice yet.”
Cudlin will be partnered by Scott Smart and Rico Penzkofer for the eight hour race, which starts at 11:30am local time tomorrow.
Updates and results during the race will be available from www.Race24.com
